The Alchemy of Art - According to Lanny

Patzcuaro is a place where, on a stroll down any street,  one can  encounter materials for my art.   A venture into the market might yield woven reed mats, discarded produce trays or bottle caps.   Parts of a broken vegetable steamer could become elements of an ornate ceremonial collar.   My studio is filled with these 'raw materials'.  A glue gun is a magic wand.   Friends show up at the door bringing 'stuff'.

When I found myself in China.   I was enthralled with both the strength and delicacy of ancient art.   Chinese robes brought visions of opulence and ceremonies of  times long gone.   My "Vestiduras" reflect this fascination - creations of fantasy based on the richness of the past.   Although China and Mexico are in different hemispheres, there are profound and ancient connections - highly developed tribal cultures are shared by both.   Ancient Chinese expeditions are said to have sailed up the Rio Balsas as far as Uruapan in the Mexican state of Michoacan.    I have combined Asian and historical Meso-American themes with my representations of Tribal Art.
